Description: Responsibilities:
  • Strategic Planning and Business Partnering
    • Establish credibility throughout the organization as an effective developer of solutions to business challenges for the finance function, by providing timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial reports, and financial trends with aim to assist the General Manager, CFO SEA, and/or other Senior Management Executives in decision making and performing their responsibilities;
    • Provide strategic financial input and leadership on decision making affecting the organization, particularly on the impact of short, medium, or long term planning, or introduction of any new strategies and/or regulatory requirements;
    • Identify revenues optimization and bring creativity in developing new local charges;
    • Establish and maintain an appropriate internal control environment with cost reduction driven in all areas;
    • Develop and establish a reliable cash flow management process and strategies to optimize and enhance the Company’s cash flow position;
    • Ensure a healthy management of income, cost, assets, and liabilities of company Cargo in the area.
  • Reporting
    • Overall responsible for reporting in a timely manner of management, and statutory reporting for company, including but not limited to the following:
      • annual budget & forecast report;
      • monthly income statement report;
      • balance sheet reconciliations;
      • principal account statement;
      • debtor / creditor ageing report;
      • weekly cash flow forecast report;
      • quarterly / annual internal reporting packages and statutory accounts;
    • Evaluate report findings, present reporting deviations, and make recommendations to Senior Management on financial implications of proposed investments and/or transactions;
    • Ensure complete, accurate, and timely financial reporting and forecasting to correctly reflect the Company’s financial direction.
  • Operations
    • Enhance and/or develop, implement, and enforce policies and procedures of the organization that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of day-to-day operations;
    • Ensure internal control policies and procedures comply with Company policies, local FRS and IFRS;
    • Conduct internal process reviews to ensure proper audit trails for accounting records in accordance to statutory requirements;
    • Ensure day-to-day transactional accounting, treasury, cash management, budget control and financial reporting are executed in a timely and accurate manner, including inter-company reconciliations with company GVA Accounts;
    • Identify improvement areas and develop good accounting control procedures and best practices to enhance accounting quality and efficiency.
  • Cost Control
    • Work closely with Singapore Cost Control team to manage voyage expense accounts to ensure all voyage accounts related financial data are analysed and reconciled;
    • Ensure the transparency, quality, consistency, audit, and reporting of financial data, complying with company Group policies, local regulatory guidelines, and local IFRS Accounting Standards;
    • Partner with Cost Controller to identify areas for improvement to cost control processes and data;
  • Tax Matters
    • Optimize VAT and tax structure with responsibilities of adherence to international Transfer Pricing guidelines working closely with the Group Tax Officer;
    • Work closely and manage relevant external auditors, tax agent and local authorities to ensure all tax filings and any legal filing as required by local laws and regulations are performed accurately and timely;
    • Resolve any accounting or tax related issues raised by external auditors and/or external authorities.
  • Risk Management
    • Manage cash and treasury process including the optimization of cash flow, bank relationships and currency exposure;
    • Ensure that the Company complies with all company GVA, legal and regulatory requirements;
    • Ensure that financial record keeping meets auditors and statutory requirements;
    • Maintain relations with external auditors and investigate their findings and recommendations;
    • Develop and maintain the Credit Management Policy of the country;
    • Process credit evaluations and minimize credit days and old overdue;
    • Exercise control over local and/or overseas debtors and escalate inconsistencies or identified corporate risks to Management timely;
    • Report any risk issues to Senior Management, company GVA Internal Audit, or the Board where necessary and provide any necessary recommendations.
  • Performance Management and Individual Development
    • Lead, direct, evaluate, and develop team members on their daily work performance to ensure Department objectives are met;
    • Develop performance measurements to drive individual and team performance;
    • Serve as a coach/ mentor and provide technical financial advice and knowledge to direct reports and team members;
    • Demonstrate commitment to professional self-development to employees within the team;
    • Evaluate the team structure as required for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the team;
    • Identify and initiate improvement areas and develop good accounting control procedures and best practices to enhance overall accounting operations, work quality and efficiency;
    • Support General Manager or CFO SEA in new initiatives or projects as and when required.
Qualifications
  • Min Degree in Accountancy / Finance or equivalent;
  • Masters / CFA preferred, but not a must;
  • Preferably has prior exposure to shipping industry;
  • Min 6 to 8 years of relevant work experience in maintaining and executing financial controls and reporting at country level;
  • People management experience.
